I am an MK (missionary kid) and mother of two grown children. Altho' my husband is Japanese (from Koriyama), and we speak Japanese at home, my education (elementary-university) has been in English, so most of my reading and writing is in English too. Last year, we moved to Okinawa and now live in the house my Dad built. I was born in Okinawa--it's been a long time, but I've come home...at last. 2025 August posts are publications put out by wildlife of a Saitama park in 2019.

Choosing Black

Today, I was in a mood. I think you'll be able to tell from the pics I chose to take and show you on my blog. Our apartment, Townhome Daishin, looked awful. Our backyard is suffocatingly ugly, I said--unless it's snowing, or unless there are flowers blooming, or unless I can hear the birdies chirping nearby, or unless I can hear the rustling of the leaves.... When I started writing all this, I realized it's not so bad after all; God has dowsed me with things I ought to be thankful for, but I sometimes choose to see only the unpleasant things.

I'd just had a spat with Kinya, so I wasn't feeling very thankful. When I took off for my walk, I did tell him what time I planned to be back, but in the back of my mind I told myself I wouldn't be happy about what I was coming back to either. When I get in one of my moods, I can be persistently unbearable--I think "stubborn" is the more common expression for it. Somehow, it seems I fool people into thinking I am a sweet, quiet person...my family knows otherwise--sigh.

I turned down the road and saw a gully nearby...it was muddy and ucky, and the dead grass gave it an unkempt appearance, I said. I wasn't in any mood to take time to get a picture of the natural carp swimming in the water. The sunlight glistening on the water's surface made them harder to see.

pic: You can't see the carp, but they really were there! They usually aren't; I think God did that for me, to cheer me up, and I ignored His gesture of Love....

I am really, really sorry. I missed my chance to show you a photo of live carp right in my neighborhood and not the pond of an expensive restaurant. Maybe I'll get another chance in the future.
