“Just give up then; see if I care!” Marble screamed at Goldie as he left her side. He didn’t mean a word of it. Marmalade knew. Of course, Slit knew. Most of those who swam in the pond knew. But Marble didn’t know what to do or say to help the one he loved most in all the world, and those were the words that flew out of his mouth.
Oh, but Marble wanted Goldie to hear other more worthy words. He chased after Marmalade to find Valentine and the other voices of the Iwatsuki Pond Glee Club. Would they PLEEEEEEEEZE do a special favor for him? Just this once, and he would owe them his life—they would?! They were WONDERFUL! Oh, he had to get Goldie to come!
Marble could’ve twirled three times in the water when he saw a yellow ribbon slowly coming closer—Goldie! But it seemed everyone, not just Marble, was eager with anticipation for the special arrival, altho’ with studied nonchalance, Marmalade swam out to welcome Goldie then turned toward the gang and got them belting out, “For she’s a jolly good fellow” to no small surprise for Goldie.
“This is long overdue,” Marmalade said, representing the group, “but our pond owes you Goldie so much and want to thank you for the zest, joy, and beauty, you’ve brought into our lives. Hurrah for Goldie!
When fish get all happy, they just keep twirling in the water.
