I am an MK (missionary kid) and mother of two grown children. Altho' my husband is Japanese (from Koriyama), and we speak Japanese at home, my education (elementary-university) has been in English, so most of my reading and writing is in English too. Last year, we moved to Okinawa and now live in the house my Dad built. I was born in Okinawa--it's been a long time, but I've come home...at last. 2025 August posts are publications put out by wildlife of a Saitama park in 2019.

Gotta Get Some Sleep

Pensive Birdie on Fensive
I can't believe it. For years, one of the specials I loved to hear my sister Joyce sing was "His Eye Is On The Sparrow". Guess what song I'll be playing on the piano for special music Sunday (and Bible School chapel the Friday before)? It will be the same song, done in Grieg's "Birdling" style.

At the start, a sparrow is flitting about outside the window at which a musician sits and stares out into space. He thinks of all his troubles and how he really shouldn't stay sad because Christ is with him. The little sparrow, hearing the strained singing, seems to be sticking in his beak from time to time, chirping, "but" or "not exactly". The musician is trying with all his might to trust God. The birdie can stand it no longer, and risks coming closer, still closer, even closer, then opens its beaks to sing heartily; "You don't try to trust; our God is a Heavenly Father you can't help but trust!", and he almost falls off his twig trying to get his message across. The truth slowly dawns on the musician, then he begins singing with happy abandon, now laughing with the sparrow. At the end of the song, the human is at peace with his God, and the little bird, relieved, emits a light trill and flies away.

Tern on River
The other day, I saw a bird--not just a tiny sparrow, but a larger tern. It was on the river separating Iwatsuki from East Iwatsuki. We may move near there (That is mere wistful thinking).  There is going to be construction work next to the freeway running right by our house, and those of us living in the area have been asked to relocate.  The city will be helping us find new lodging plus make an effort to find us a place with rent comparable to the house we now live in. Perhaps we can put in a request for housing near this river.

Not because we want to live near the river; but because the church may be moving to a plot near it, and we want to live close to church! Sunday afternoon, the church folk will be looking at two pieces of property there as possibilities for a meeting place in the future. Hm; we just sold our apartment building in Koriyama. Now, we are on the buying side!

Tern Taking Off
Where we live--who we work/walk with--what grades we get or money we make...isn't it good to know our Heavenly Father already knows what we need most and will bring it to us?

...although it looks like what I need most right now is several hours of good, solid rest--a few moments ago, my daughter Emily caught me falling asleep at the computer keyboard.

I'll go to dreamland now and leave the title of this post with you (?)...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
